One of UCAN City Mission’s primary goals is to offer life skills training to guests that come to stay at the mission in order that they can learn and develop certain skills necessary for stable living. UCAN is not currently offering in-house life skills training, but our short-term solution is to encourage our guests to engage with similarly purposed social service agencies and peer advocacy programs that we have developed close partnerships with across the region. Our long-term goal is to hire on qualified personnel to offer these trainings right at the UCAN Mission Facilities, so that any shelter guests who are unable to easily get to another agency’s program will be able to have the opportunity to participate in our on-site day programing that will help to benefit them throughout their life.

“Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different activities, but the same God works all of them in each person.” – 1 Corinthians 12: 4-6. Everyone has something to achieve, and therefore has something to offer the world around themselves. Everyone is created with a gift, ministry, and activity that was specifically designed for them by God. We all just need a little help sometimes to find it, unwrap it, and activate it.
